MCPS elementary KidWind students pose with their coaches

The students of Martinsville City Public Schools (MCPS) are making waves in the world of renewable energy! At the recent regional KidWind competition, their talent and hard work really blew the judges away.

Of the five MCPS teams that travelled to Virginia Tech to compete in the regional qualifier, four of them have earned the right to showcase their skills at the state level! Every single Martinsville team is bringing home an award too - now that's what we call a clean sweep!

In the Solar Challenge category, Patrick Henry Elementary School's Solar Panthers claimed the first-place title, while the Albert Harris Elementary School Solar Sailors finished as runners-up.

The Wind Challenge saw a clean sweep by MCPS teams, with the Taco Turbines and Breeze Blasters from Patrick Henry Elementary School securing first and second place, respectively. Albert Harris Elementary School's Wind Rangers rounded out the top three.

The KidWind program encourages students to explore renewable energy concepts through hands-on design, construction, and testing of wind turbines and solar structures.

A huge congratulations to all of our incredible student engineers and their awesome coaches!
