Athletic teams and extracurricular activities teach and enhance students’ leadership abilities, introduce and strengthen a range of skills, allow them to be part of a community within a community, and facilitate new associations with others who share a common interest. The overall goal of both programs is to enrich the lives of Martinsville students beyond the classroom.
MCPS athletic teams have a long history of success. Our many programs offer student-athletes the chance to not only hone their physical abilities field, track, mat, or court, but to practice essential skills such as communication, goal-setting, cooperation, and more that will remain with them long after they have participated in their last athletic competition.
Any student who wishes to participate in athletics must complete the VHSL Physical Form.
Some of our athletics teams include:
Basketball
Cross Country
Football
Golf
Swim & Dive
Volleyball
Wrestling
MCPS students who want to explore opportunities outside the classroom can participate in a variety of clubs and organizations. Offered at every level and in all of our schools, these clubs and organizations focus on the arts, community service, multicultural awareness, and other interests. Participation is a great way for students to get to know others with common interests, develop leadership skills, help the community, or just have a good time doing something they enjoy.
Some of our extracurricular organizations include:
Performing Arts Academy
Robotics
Odyssey of the Mind
Chess Club
Marching Band
Gospel Choir
Scholastic Bowl
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
